Office of Student Life

Frequently Asked Questions

Monda Student Resource Center

What is the Monda Student Resource Center?

The Office of Student Life’s Monda Student Resource Center (MSRC) will provide holistic support for students’ essential needs in a one-stop shop. The MSRC supports students in meeting their needs through access to clothing, food and support services provided by campus and community partners.

When will the center open?

Construction on the MSRC within the Younkin Success Center will begin in Spring 2024.  We anticipate opening the MSRC for operations in Autumn Semester 2024

Where will the center be located?

Younkin Success Center Room 150 (1640 Neil Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43210). The MSRC is strategically located in the Younkin Success Center to leverage co-located support through:

  • Counseling and Consultation Service

  • Buckeye Careers

  • Dennis Learning Center

The MSRC will have representation and partnership from both university and community partners.  Check back here as we get closer to opening for a list and schedule of partner units / offices who will join us in the MSRC to support students’ needs.

Who can access the Monda Student Resource Center?

The Monda Student Resource Center is available to all Ohio State students (undergraduate, graduate, professional and doctoral) who could benefit from any or all of the services.

Why does the Monda Student Resource Center exist?

Ohio State has many university programs and community partnerships established to meet the essential needs of students. Given the size of Ohio State and the decentralized nature of these programs and partnerships, barriers exist for students where their essential needs are not met.  Essential needs insecurity directly impacts a student’s ability to succeed in college (Regan, 2020). National research has found that among students who experience food or housing insecurity, 32% report it had a negative impact on their academics (Dubick et al., 2016; Hagedorn-Hatfield et al., 2022). Supporting students’ essential needs has a direct impact on their academic and long-term success.

Do I need to make an appointment?

Yes. All students hoping to access the Buckeye Food Alliance should schedule ahead of time. Orders can be placed online. Please note that all orders must be placed at least 4 hours ahead of the time that you want to pick up and cannot be placed more than 48 hours in advance.

How often can I come to the Buckeye Food Alliance food pantry?

Students are encouraged to come whenever they need. We understand that students’ needs vary greatly and want to be as accommodating as possible. Though most students come once per week, we know some may need more than one visit per week and some students may only need to come a few times per semester. Regardless of your specific needs we are here to serve you.

What types of food will I receive?

This is entirely up to what food items you choose off the menu. Options are dependent on what donations are received and what products are in stock. Though inventory may vary, students can choose from a selection of items such as fresh produce, milk, eggs, rice, beans, oatmeal, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, pastas, snacks and more.

Can I choose what kind of foods I get?

Yes. Buckeye Food Alliance is a client-choice pantry. When ordering online, you may choose any of the products outlined on our menu. We try our best to ensure the items you choose are the items that go home with you. Please note that certain items have higher demand and there are times we run out. When this occurs, we try our best to offer a substitution.

Are personal care items available?

Yes.  Personal care items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, toilet paper, soap, shampoo and more are available. We try to keep personal items fully stocked at all times, however, availability is dependent on donations to the pantry.

Can I donate food?

We are currently accepting donations of unopened, non-perishable, non-expired food, baby items and hygiene products.  Please contact Nick Fowler at fowler.318@osu.edu for additional information.

Do you provide volunteer opportunities?
